The Scary Horse
In Eldermoor, a village with big trees and mountains, there was a story about a magic horse. This horse was called the Scary Horse. It was not like regular horses; it was special and was part of a story that all the kids and adults in Eldermoor liked.
The Scary Horse was known for its shiny black fur and bright red eyes. It was said to come out only when the moon was very big and shiny. The horse would run fast near the trees. The people in Eldermoor thought that seeing the Scary Horse meant something exciting was going to happen. They remembered times when after the horse was seen, surprising things happened, like an old house falling down or a big tree disappearing.
Elara, a brave kid in third grade, always loved the story of the Scary Horse. She hoped she would see it one day.
One night in autumn, Elara saw the Scary Horse near the trees. It looked amazing but a bit scary. Elara felt a little scared, but she wanted to see it up close. When she got close, she saw that the horse’s eyes were kind, not scary. Elara knew then that the Scary Horse was not really scary. It was a sign that something fun was going to happen in Eldermoor.
Elara felt very brave as she watched the horse walk back into the trees. After seeing it, she thought differently. She learned that things that seem scary can actually be nice, and that changes can be fun.
In Eldermoor, everyone still told the story of the Scary Horse. But for Elara, it was more than a story. It was about being brave and learning that changes can be exciting.
