The Butcher Of Congo: King Leopold The Second Of Belgium
A long time ago, a king named Leopold from a place called Belgium did very bad things in Congo, Africa. He wanted the rubber from the big forests there because people in Europe really liked rubber. Leopold said he was helping, but he was not nice to the people. He made them work very hard and hurt them if they did not do what he wanted.
Leopold's men used a big whip to scare and hurt people if they did not bring enough rubber. This made many people very sad and hurt. Leopold became very rich because of the rubber, but he never visited Congo.
Other places in the world were also not being nice to people. In Australia, Britain was not nice to the Aborigines. In the United States, people were not nice to Native Americans and Filipinos. In Congo and Angola, people from France, Spain, Portugal, and Germany were also not nice to the people there.
A man wrote a book called "Crime of the Congo" to tell everyone how bad it was in Congo. Even though Leopold was very rich, what he did was very wrong.
After Leopold, Congo had more tough times, but they are trying to do better now. Congo has many treasures under its ground like diamonds.
It's important to remember and be kind to everyone, no matter where they are from.
